Background: The phenomenon of intestine ischemia reperfusion (IIR) occurs early in the whole pathological procedure, which happens after the organism is subjected to the severe injury, empyrosis, and major operation. IIR commonly causes the functional impairment of intestinal mucosal barrier. The enterogenic infection is the effect induced by the impaired intestinal mucosal barrier, and it is the key cause that leads to systemic inflammatory response syndrome and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The common complications and important death cause of IIR is the respiration function failure. It has been proved that IIR can cause the lung tissue damage mediated by leucocyte through activating pulmo-endotheliocyte, breaking the balance of regional cytokine network, and causing the expression of certain cytokine and adhesion molecule. The foregone reaserch has proved that the lung damage caused by IIR is related with nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB), and the activation of NF-κB plays an important role in the IIR. Carnosol is one kind of Chinese medicinal herb whose pharmacological action mechanism was researched seldomly, but present research discovered that it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Objective: In order to provide preclinical pharmacological basis for its new clinical application, the preconditioning protective effects of carnosol on lung against IIR was investigated.Method: Rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: control group, model group, and carnosol preconditioning group. The IIR model was established by clamping superior mesenteric artery...
