It has been two decades past since the clinical pathway(CP) was first developed in North America in 80s of last century. Since then, the clinical pathways were widely-applied in various healthcare facilities and developed into a new tool which was used to organize and standardize healthcare practices. Although clinical pathways were fully developed, the literature review shows that a comprehensive evaluation model and a set of indicators of the key processes such as the organization, the development, implementation, and assessment when they were applied have not established. In our nation, a considerable number of healthcare facilities have developed clinical pathways and applied them to clinical practices and some positive results were witnessed, however the literature review indicates that it reminds lots of problems and deficiency in process management of clinical pathways and the essential ideas were far more obtained. Thus whether or not the clinical pathways applied in China were effectively managed and optimized and what the exact deficiency there remains when they are applied needs to be answered by establishing a set of comprehensive and uniform indicator system to systematically and scientifically evaluate the key elements in the process of implementing clinical pathways from the perspective of management of CP process (CPC), which has a great significance in guaranteeing the effectiveness of application of CPs, and enhancing the standardization of use of CPs and continuously improving the CP process. This study is the one having not been explored so far but must be probed into.In this project , the author first analyzed and decompounded the management of process of CPs so as to confirm the measuring points of evaluation; then a great number of literatures about the research dealing with the evaluation of application of CPs both in China and abroad had been reviewed. Based on the advanced experience in CPs researches and process Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principle, directed by the system theory and the idea of Evidence-based Medicine, the author employed the methods of...
