Objective: Recently, the impact of stress on mental and physical health has attracted more and more attention. Moderate stress can improve our ability to resistant adverse environment, while persistent or intensive stress can lead to psychological and physiological disorders, and even result in diseases. It was found in clinical experience that the phenomenon of changes of the neural system function, such as psychological disorder and memory impairment and so on, would come along with those who had been under stress for a long time.Hippocampus is an important conformation of limbic system, which is related with learning, memory and emotion. It has been confirmed that stress can lead to the impairment of hippocampal structure and functions, for example, it can result in the loss of hippocampal neurons, the atrophy of dendrites etc. The further researches indicate that chronic psychosocial stress can induced the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in different area of hippocampus. Up to now, most of the researches on the impairment of hippocampal neurons induced by stress are carried out using the stressor of chronic psychological stress. The studies about whether acute stress can induce apoptosis of neurons are little.
