| Objectives: Vascular dementia (VD) is clinical syndrome of intelligence and cognitive disorder resulted from cerebrovascular disease and it is clinically characterized by occurring dementia accompanied by cerebrovascular disease. There are rich practical experiences to treat VD with Chinese medicine. Although Chinese medicine shows superiority in respect of delaying the developmemt of disease, ameliorating general symptoms of patients, bettering intellectual status to a certain degree, etc., researches on the mechanism of action of Chinese medicine remain weaker, which produces a result that the objectivity and science of Chinese medicine to prevent and cure VD are not strong. No one has compared systematically the effects and function mechanisms of medicinal prescriptions to prevent and treat VD which are formed by combining different therapeutical methods.
