Survey On Internet Addiction And Its Event-related Potential In Four Universities Of Shanxi Province

Objective: To investigate IAD state and related factors among undergraduates in Shanxi Province. To identify the difference on brain evoked potential (BEP) between IAD patients and controls. To provide reference for the prevention, intervention and treatment of IAD. Methods: According to cluster sampling principle . During May to June, 2005,1896 undergraduates from four colleges in Shanxi Province were investigated with Internet addiction Scale (IAD), SCL-90, IAD, HAMD and a self-developed questionnaire ,then we detected BEP P300 and its subcomponent as their cognitive function parameter. Results: 1. The prevalence on IAD was 9.49% which was similar to other colleges. There were significance between different sexes (P<0.05).2. Among the four different colleges, The medical undergraduates have a better psychological health state than other college's students do.The prevalence of IAD in Science university is the highest. The prevalencs of IAD in Science students was higher than liberal arts students. 3. Among the four different universities Depression, compel symptom, interpersonal sensitivity, paranoia ideation and hostility are the main psychological problem. 4.Study on BEP showed there was no statistical significance between IAD patients and controls. Conclusions: 1.The prevalences of IAD of undergraduates in Shanxi Province are different in different college type, specialty .There are significance between them. 2.The problem about IAD among undergraduates in Shanxi Province should be paid more attention. Intervention measures should be taken according to personality, gender, society and behavior. Support from society, family and college is needed.
