Investigation Of Response To Psychology Stress Of Clinical Nursing Teachers

Objective Through the investigation into the condition of psychology stress and teaching behaviors of the full-time clinical nursing teachers, we looked for the stressor which influenced the teachers' valid teaching behaviors, analyzed the related independent factors, explored the methods to keep healthy psychology and effective teaching behaviors. And all of these could provide a foundation for improving the basic quality of teachers and completing the construction of the teacher team.Methods 36 full-time preceptors and 120 nursing students were investigated by a questionnaire from 2003 to 2004,and some of them were interviewed.Results The results showed that the preceptors faced all kinds of stress in their work, which derived from the students, social environment and the demand of teaching. The methods that the teachers always used including: looking for help, study continuously, transferred the problems to others and evading. The results of interviews showed that unfair evaluation from the students, not being understood by leaders and colleagues, doing other work at the same time and distrust from the students were the main problems which led to the low activity of the teachers. By contrast, comparing and assessing among different departments would bring a positive stress. During the interview, the teachers expressed that they were eager to acquire more professional guide and more opportunities to exchange their experiences. Teachers had the same opinions about the importance of teaching as students and both of them held that effective teaching behaviors were important to clinical teaching work.
