The Patients' Quality Of Life Studies On Tongbiling In Treating Ankylosing Spondytitis

Ankylosing spondylitis(AS) is a chronic disease that encroaches cacroiliac joint, process of bone of vertebral column, sofe tissue beside vertebral column, periph joint, also with manifestation outside joint. Some serious ones may have spinal monstrosity and articular entasia. The case rate is 0. 26% , about 3. 5 million patients in China. AS cannot be cured completely, but if the patient is diagnosed timely and treated properly,it can be controlled and also prognosis be improved .Quality of Life (QOL) is the experience of aim, expectation, standard and other things they are concerned about by people have different culture and value system .When the pronosis of disease is merely recovered partially, treatment is to relax but not charm off, it' s significative to use scale to estimate life quality.Tongbiling is one of the Chinese patent medicine that used to treat AS. After clinical observation for several years, it' s proved to have definited curative effect for it diminishs inflammation and eases pain well. But the study of life quality about AS hasn' t been begun yet .So, this study is to reseach AS patients' life quality on Tongbiling' s influence. Whereas there is neither a recognised quality of life scale for AS(SQOL-AS) in China, nor in other conntries, this study is devided into two parts, the early stage is to invent SQOL-AS, then use it as a tool to measure life quality of AS, after educing data, we evaluate the effect of Tongbiling on life quality of the AS patient.The original scale, including 58 items raised by the topic discussion group, was filtered and modified through prearrangement experiments. Then it wasformed the formal scale composed of 37 items, and evaluated and analysed fully with its feasibility, reliability, validity and responsibility etc. The outcome indicates that feasibility, reliability, validity and responsibility of the SQOL-AS was satisfying. So , The SQOL-AS can be used for mensurating the life quality of AS in clinic.To explore the effect on Quality of Life(SQOL) of Tongbiling in treating ankylosing spondytitis(AS)., one hundred and eighty cases of AS which accord with the criteria for AS edited in New York in 1984 were randomized to two groups: group A(n=90) was treated with Tongbiling and group B(n=90) with indomethacin for oral use. The patients' QOL were measured before and after treatment, and analysed after statistical disposition. The results show that the improvement of the Tongbiling group' s physical functions , mental state , self-realization for the health and so on, is better than the group of indomethacin (P<0. 05). And the melioration extent of the symptom of patients of blood stasis obstructing collaterals is better than the other two groups (P<0. 05) o It indicates that Tongbiling can improve the quality of life of the patients of ankylosing spondytitis preferably. And it has more advantage in the patients of blood stasis obstructing collaterals, whose main mechanism may be activating blood to resolve stagnation and dredging collaterals to relieve pain .
