Traditional Chinese Physicians' Advanced Study In The Early Days After The Foundation Of PRC (1949～1955)

As a historical event, traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study in the early days after the foundation of PRC was organized and Led by the government of PRC. Traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study was carried out all over the country. Its destination was "scientization of traditional Chinese medicine" and its object matter was traditional Chinese physicians learning western medical knowledge. It had a far-reaching effect on the policy of traditional Chinese medicine.Traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study in the early days after the foundation of PRC had a particular historical background. Its occurrence was determined by the domestic health resources' conditions of the day, health policy and practical situation of traditional Chinese medical trade, etc. It was also closely linked with our administration captained by Mao Tse-tung whose instructions usually had a determinant effect on the development of TCM during the 1950's.In order to implement the health guideline of "prevention first" and "unite doctors of traditional Chinese and western medicine" , achieve the destination of "scientization of traditional Chinese medicine" at last, some traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study schools, classes and correspondence classes were established in succession all over the country. At the same time, research teams, medical lectures and clinical experience symposiums were organized in some areas. Traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study was carried out all over the country. It became a center of traditional Chinese medical work. It differed from not only education pattern of TCM ago but also medical education.Through the advanced study many practitioners of Chinese medicine reallyimproved themselves and played a positive part in sanitary and antiepidemic task, mitigated the acute shortage of health resources. This work also had a far-reaching effect on the development of TCM.A major objective of this dissertation is the systematic research on traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study in the early days after the foundation of PRC which includes knowing its general situations, investigating its characteristics of the age and all the consequences arising therefrom, discovering its political and social factors.This work can not only help us comprehend the relationship between society and development of traditional Chinese medicine trade, but also can enrich historical research. In doing so, we can be conscious of history. Meanwhile, it can supply references to the development of TCM.The dissertation comprises 4 chapters. Chapter 1 narrates the international and domestic circumstances in the early days after the foundation of PRC. Chapter 2 discusses the cause of traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study which consists of domestic health resources' condition of the day, practical situation of traditional Chinese physicians, forming health policies on advanced study and the national leaders' decision. Chapter .3 describes the march of traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study. It consists of the nature and purpose, teaching circumstances, the main forms of advanced study, traditional Chinese physicians' different views on the advanced study, their varied motives, developments in advanced study, problems, the men of weight who participated in advanced study and contributed substantially to academic succession and development, etc. The concluding line expounds "scientization of traditional Chinese medicine" and traditional Chinese physicians' advanced study. In addition, I make an objective appraisal of advanced study and affirm its achievements under specified conditions.
