Study On The Expression Of COX-2, BFGF, BFGFR And Significance In Carcinoma Of The Colon And Rectum

Objective:To study the expression and interaction of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2),basic fibroblast growth factor (BFGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor receptor (BFGFR) in carcinoma of the colon and rectum and the relationship between both COX-2 ,BFGF and BFGFR expression and biology behavior of carcinoma of the colon and rectum .Methods:49 intestinal biopsy specimens were taken from patients with carcinoma of the colon and rectum and 25 adenomatous polyp,20 normal intestinal mucosal for controls ,the expression of COX-2 and BFGF,BFGFR were detected by immunohistochemical staining(SP method).Results: The positive rates of COX-2,BFGF and BFGFR were 59.2%,69.3% and 65.3% in carcinoma of the colon and rectum respectively. The positive rates of COX-2,BFGF and BFGFR were 52.0%,56.0% and 60.0% in adenomatous polyp respectively, COX-2, BFGF and BFGFR were not detected in normal intestinal mucosal. The positive rates of COX-2,BFGF and BFGFR were no significant difference between in carcinoma of the colon and rectum and in adenomatous polyp(P >0.05).there were no correlations between gender,age,tumor size,tumor position, cell differentiation and the expression of COX-2,BFGF and BFGFR in carcinoma of the colon and rectum. There were significant correlation among the expression of COX-2,BFGF and BFGFR and Dukes stage,lymph node metastasis(P < 0.05),furthermore,there were no significant relationship between the COX-2 and BFGF,BFGFR expression.Conclusions:the excessive expression of COX-2 and BFGF,BFGFR participates in genesis of carcinoma of the colon and rectum. COX-2 and BFGF,BFGFR participate in genesis of carcinoma of the colon and rectum independent each other.
