With the continuously improved and mature ofphacoemulsification and intraocular lenses, they have alreadybecome main therapeutics means towards cataract patients. Butfor the evaluation of visual function after cataract surgery, therehas been stayed for a long time to depend on visual acuity chart. Infact ,during the clinical works, parts of sufferers complained theycould not see clearly and surely, and have the dizzled lightphenomenons, especially in the night, although with good visualacuity. With the use of contrast sensitivity and wavefrontaberrations, we gradually find the answers. The domestic started later in contrast sensitivity and wavefrontaberrations, and primarily focused on refraction surgery, few aboutcataract surgery. At the same time restricted by economy andideas, the current researchs stayed around to collect the abroadresearchs, our own still few. What this research compare is the aberrations differece of sev-eral eyes, including IOLs and normal eyes. Wavefront aberrationsincreace in the IOLs than in the normal eyes, and some of thesuffered could not bear for a long time.our research will do good tothe more mature design of the cataract surgery and the IOLs.PURPOSE: We compared high-order wavefront aberrations andcontrast sensitivity in 57 pseudophakic eyes implanted with fourdifferent types of intraocular lenses and in 15 normal eyes to obtainan objective evaluation of the optical propert of thesepseudophakic eyes and normal eyes.METHODS: 2004.12-2005.6,the age-related cataract 50 pa-tients(57 eyes),expelling an other diseases of eye, no high myopia,no body system disease. group 1 implanted lenses were AlconSN60AT.group2 were ALCON MZ60BD,group 3 were AllerganSENSAR AR40e. group 4 were CANON STAAR KS-3.group5 werenormal eyes. Eyes were examined contrast sensitivity with theOPTEC3500 Vision Tester under the nighttime, nighttime &periglare, daytime, daytime & periglare conditions at differentspacial frequencies and wavefront aberrations with Visx WaveScanwavefront for the RMS of 3rd,4th,5th,6th order aberrations,totalhigh-order aberrations,Spherical aberrations,Coma aberrationsand Trefoil aberrations two months after cataract sursery. A fifthgroup of 15 eyes of 10 elderly patients with normal crystallinelenses had the same examination.RESULTS: ⑴ under the nighttime condition and the nighttime &periglare condition at medial special frequency, the CS of thenormal and the postoperative was different apparently, thenormal's was higher than the postoperative's. ⑵ 5th order aberra-tions and total high-order aberrations did not show a substantialdifference with any of the IOLs and normal eyes. ⑶ Sphericalaberrations showed significant increase with the ACRYSOFSN60AT,PMMA MZ60BD and Canon Staar KS-3, comparing withnormal eyes. ⑷ Coma aberrations showed a substantial increasewith the ACRYSOF SN60AT, comparing with PMMA MZ60BD,SENSAR AR40e and CANON STAAR KS-3. ⑸ 3rd,4th, 6th orderand trefoil aberrations showed a little more difference at some ofgroups, but there is no statistical meaning.CONCLUSIONS: The optical quality of pseudophakic eyes canbe measured in vivo by aberrometers. contrast sensitivity of theIOLs is lower than the normal eyes after cataract sursery.Spherical aberration showed significant increase after cataractsurgery with IOLs,comparing with normal eyes. Becanse ofdifferent IOLs substances, there is much difference at aberrationsafter cataract surgery and a substantial positive correlation withrefractive index.
