Objective: To investigate the expression of hTERT (the catalytic subunit of human telomerase) and survivin in epithelial tumors of ovary and study their relationship with age ,histological type , grade and surgical stage. Methods: Using immunohistochemical method ,the expression of hTERT and Survivin were examined in 68 specimens of ovarian epithelial tumors, including 23 cases of benign, 18 cases of borderline and 27 cases of malignancy tumors.Result: 1)hTERT protein was expressed in 85.19 % (23/27)epithelial ovarian cancers , 44.44% (8/18) borderline tumor and 26.87% (6/23) benign tumors; 2)Survivin protein was expressed in nuclear in 44.44% (12/27) epithelial ovarian cancers , 88.89% (16/18) borderline tumor and 37.78 % (8/23) benign tumors. Survivin protein was expressed in Cytoplasmic in 59.26% (16/27) epithelial ovarian cancers ,38.89 % (7/18) borderline tumor and 17.39% (4/23) benign tumors;3)The protein expression of Survivin and hTERT were significantly higher in ovarian cancers than in benign tumors and bordeline tumors. Overexpression of Survivin and hTERT protein was not related to the age , histological type , grade and surgical stage of epithelial ovarian cancers (P < 0. 05);4)The expression of hTERT was related with the expression of survivin in Cytoplasmic. Conclusion: hTERT and survivin have up-regulated expression in ovarian carcinoma while lower expression in noncancer tissue. They may be identified as potential targets for diagnosis and treatment and would be useful as tumor progression markers, hTERT and survivin might play syneregulated expression in the carcinogensis.
