Objective To investigate the roles of CTGF in development of vascular fibrosis in renovascular hypertensive rats. Methods Renovascular hypertensive rat animal models were used. The experimental rats were catagorized into 4 group:4 wks hypertensive and control groups, 12 wks hypertensive and control groups. CTGF, TGF-β1i were evaluated by qualitative and semiquantitative immunohistochemical staining in the fourth and the twelevth week after operation to explore their distribution and expression in left ventricular tissue. VanGieson staining were used in the study of total collagen in left ventricular interstitial tissue. Results Compared with sham operated rat(SOR), the collagen volume fraction (CVF), perivascular collagen area (PVCA), the expression of CTGF and TGF- β1 in left ventricular tissue were significantly increased in RHR (p<0.01 or p<0.05).CTGF reacted primarily with myocardial interstitium and artery midia, TGF-β1 mainly inmyocardial cells.Correative analysis revealed that CTGF positively correlated with TGF-β1(r = 0.626 ,p< 0.05 ), CVF(r=0.815,p<0.01), PVCA(r=0.793,p<0.01).Conclusions CTGF may play important roles in development of myocardial interstitial fibrosis.
