Objective: To explore several relative factors of tongue cancer recurrence together associated with surgical treatment and to find out those factors which have a close relationship with tongue cancer recurrence. Methods: Several clinical and pathological parameters of 203 tongue cancer patients were reviewed and analyzed. The parameters include course of disease, growth pattern, location, greatest surface diameter, pathological grade, tumor invasive depth, clinical TNM stage and treatment methods. Meanwhile, the time of recurrence was also analyzed. Results: Seventy-three cases in this group had recurrence after operation, including 47 cases local recurrence and 26 cases cervical recurrence. The recurrence rate was 36.0%.The recurrence rates of the groups with course more than 6 months, greatest surface diameter more than 3cm,invasive growth pattern, tumor invasive depth more than 3mm, clinical T3,T4 or / and N1-3 stage were significantly higher than their comparative groups.Logistic regression multivariate analysis showed the course of disease, greatest surface diameter and tumor invasive depth have a close relationship with tongue cancerrecurrence(p<0.01).The time of recurrence was 14 months on the average. Conclusion: Tongue cancer recurrence has a close relationship with the course of disease, greatest surface diameter, tumor invasive depth.
