Purpose By measuring the length, the width of metacarpal bone of hands on X-ray films, we can find out their correlations between Metacarpals and the body height. We obtained several regression equations between stature and metacarpal of hand. At the same time, We procured several stepwise discriminant between Metacarpal index and stature for sexuality expertise. Above-mentioned results would be great significance for identifying individual.Method The materials for the present study were obtained from 186 college students (90 males and 96 females). Their age was from 1827 years old. The subjects were routinely exposed to X-ray. All radiographs were taken with a standardized radiographic technique from 90cm distance, 60kv, 100ms and 0.15s. Then we obtained 372 radiographs. We measured the lengths and the mid widths of metacarpals. At the same time, we also measured stature. Then the obtained data were treated statistically by the spss microsoft and expressed with the average and standard deviation. Results We obtained the minimum and maximum, average metacarpal index and standard deviation of metacarpals on right and left hands of males and females. The sexual difference between men and women is very significance. Metacarpal width indexal different of between male and female is very significance. The correlations between metacarpals length is better than metacarpals width and the body height. The correlations between the length of the third metacarpal and the body height of female is best. The correlations between the length of the second metacarpal and the body height of male is best. We obtained several regression equations between stature and metacarpal of hand. Regression equations between stature and the length of the third metacarpal of female : Y=1016. 752+9. 878X3;Regression equations between stature and the length of the second and third and fifth metacarpal of female, Y=978. 26+8.432X3-3. 749X5 +4. 983X2);Regression equations between stature and the length of the second metacarpal of male: Y=1097. 320+9. 337X2.
