Objective To study the expressions and significance of endometrial leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), Integrinβ3 and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) mRNA during midluteal(ML) phase in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome related infertility patients receiving ovulation induction therapies. Methods Infertility patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome were given different ovulation induction therapies at random, one project was clomephine citrate (CC) /hCG and another was CC/ hMG/hCG. Only those who were succeeded in ripening and ovulating of single egg follicle in ovulatory cycles were chosen as study group. 34 patients were consistent with research condition. CC/hCG group (A group) included 16 patients and CC/hMG/hCG group (B group) included 18 patients. 21 infertile women with fallopian tubal or male infactors were chosen as controls. The mRNA expressions of LIF, Integrinβ3 and ICAM-1 in ML endometrium.were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Serum concentration of estrogen and progesterone were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunization during implantation window, while the endometrial thickness measured by vaginal ultrasound B.Results The LIF, Integrinβ3 and ICAM-1 mRNA expressions were observed both in women with normal menstrul cycle and PCOS patients. Compared to controls, the expressions of endometrial LIF, Integrinβ3 and ICAM-1 mRNA were weaker in groups A and B (P<0.05). The significant differences of the three genes were not found between groups A and B (P>0.05). The significant differences of estrogen and progesterone levels as well as endometrial thickness were not found among the three groups (F= 1.54, 1.88, 0.23, P>0.05). Correlation was found neither between ovary steroid hormone and the expressions of endometrial LIF, Integrinβ3 and ICAM-1 mRNA,nor among the three genes.Conclution The decreased expression of endometrial LIF, Integrinβ3 and ICAM-1 mRNA during ML phase in PCOS patients suggested that CC/hCG or CC/hMG/hCG ovulation induction therapies might induce the decline of endometrium receptivity, which may be related to low pregnancy rate.
