Objective: To investigate the current situation of complementaryfeeding of infant and young children and the cognition of major caregiver tocomplementary feeding of infant and young children in five province rural of china.To provide scientific basis for improve complementary feeding of infant and youngchildren strategies and developing guiding of feeding practice of infant and childrenand developing nutrition intervention.Methods: Stratified muti-stage cluster sampling method was used for sampleseletion.511 major caregiver of infant and young children from five province ruralwere selected for this study. The information on situation of basis of infant and youngchildren ,additional food time kinds and frequency were collected using questionnairesurvey. The information on perception and attitude towards complementary feedingof infant and young children of major caregiver were collected using focus groupdiscussing.Results and Conclusion1. In complementary feeding of 4~24mo infant and young children, fit additionalrate of complementary foods were 57.1% (Beijingfangsheng zhejiangdongyanghenanhuixiang shanxibinxian gansudingxi respectived 61.9% 50.6% 47.4%57.8% and 64.7%). Frequency of egg vegetable and fruit were one times every dayand 1~3times every week, Additional rate of bean curl and food of animal were lowerin poor rural communities frequency of them were also lower and time of theadditional were later. In order to improve quality of complementary feeding of infantand young children,2.Majority caregiver thought that infant should addition complementary food atage 4~6mo.kind of complementary foods had egg porridge juice of fruit andvegetable ect, main reasons were "complementary nutrition supplement iron calcium""breast milk is not enough meet the child's nutrition needs".3 20% method of complementary feeding were specialties for infant and youngchildren. Many caregiver thought that it was need feeding for infant and youngchildren. It conclude that believes of caregiver were not consistent their behavior.4 Approach of gain knowledge about feeding infant and young children were mainbook and doctor of health care. We should make use of multi-channel publicize theadvantage of complementary feeding. In health care doctor guidance caregiver aboutcomplementary feeding.5 Put forward correspond improving strategies according to different problems ofcomplementary feeding of different rural communities.
