Objective: To establish a rat model of transplantation of parathyroid gland (PTG) into greater omentum. Methods: SD rats were adopted as recipients and donors. After creating rat models of hypoparathyoidism as recipients, the donors' PTG were exsected and implanted into the recipients' greater omentum. The recipients' serum calcium were checked at 5-day intervals for 5 weeks and one rat was killed respectively at the end of week 1,2,4 and 6 for pathohistology examination. Results: The recipients' serum calcium were restored to normal(2.1±0.44 mmol/L) 5 days after transplantation, which lasted for about 4 weeks and then dropped (1.39±0.34mmol/L, compared with pretransplanting P >0.05) at the end of the fifth week. The pathohistologic examinations presented the same results. Conclusion: The allograft's survival time in the greater omentum can last about 4 weeks and good models of PTG transplantation into greater omentum can be established by this method.
