| In the framework of the bio-social-psychology model, the quality of patient's life is viewed as an important criterion of medical treatment. Development of Inventories to access quality of life is therefore becoming a core issue in the area of medical psychology. In this study, the Schizophrenia Quality Of Life Scale (SQLS), developed by an England psychiatrist to evaluate schizophrenic subjective-QoL, is first translated into Chinese with the method of back translation and administered to 174 patients. Factor analysis confirms the three-dimension construct of the scale: psychosocial facet, motivation and energy, and symptom and side-effect. Data analysis indicates that the test-retest reliability of the scale is 0.87, and the Cronbach a is among 0.70~ 0.92. The scores of the SQLS are highly correlated with relevant SF-36, SCL-90 scores. Specifically, patient's psychosocial of QoL is significantly correlated with the scores of family support, sicken time, and treatment methods, the motivation and energy of QoL is closely related age, education, marriage status, employment, sicken time, hospitalization, and hospitalization time, and the symptoms and side-effects of QoL is correlated with education, marriage status, sicken time, and treatment methods. The SQLS is then used to identify difference of subjective Qol between inpatient and outpatient. Inpatient seems to have better assessment of their quality of life. This result is further explained with reference to some background factors. On the other side, patients receiving work and amusement treatment together with little side-effect medicine have high subjective-QoL. Besides, factors of high education, working, and good marriage status are found to relate with high scores of subjective-QoL.Based on the results of the study, we suggest that early intervention, social assurance, family support, and treatment method are strategies of improvement of schizophrenic subjective-QoL. |
