Objective: The Prevalance study on main chronic non-communicable diseases and the associated behaviorial risk factors among the middle and old aged people in some areas of Hubei Province. Method: A prevalance study using questionnaire survey were conducted about main chronic non-communicable diseases and the associated behaviorial risk factors among 2811 residents aged 35 and over in 12 counties of Hubei Province. Result: (1) The prevalence rate of all chronic non-communicable diseases was 61.1%; The six main chronic non-communicable diseases occurred in 84.8% of all chronic non-communicable diseases. The kinds of main chronic non-communicable disease was significantly relatied to ageing (r=0.255, P<0.01). The prevalence rates of hypertension, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and malignant tumours were 42.3%, 10.0%, 6.9%, 2.5%, 2.2%, 2.0% respectively. (2) The rates of smoking and drinking were 28.5% and 30.8% respectively. Sleeping time were over 8 hours in 33.5% of the residents and less than 6 hours in 24.1% of the residents. 57.9% of the residents were often difficult in sleeping. 0.1% of the residents were customed to high-lipid diet, high-salt diet and sweet. 35.4% of the residents had a habit of doing exercise. Comprehensive analysis of behaviorial status of health showed that 5 types of behaviors associated with health occurred only in 0.52% of the residents. More than four types of behaviors occurred in 34.66% of the residents. (3) Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that sex, age, occupation, marriage, drinking habit, drinking tea, sleepingtime, exercise, send characteristics, customed to high-lipid diet, high-salt diet were risk factors affecting prevalence rate of main chronic diseases. Conclusion: The prevalence rates of chronic diseases in some areas of Hubei Province are very high, countermeasure for preventing from these diseases should be strengthened. The behaviorial status of health of middle and old aged residents in some areas of Hubei Province were undisirable. The health education should be reinforced to improve middle and old aged people's health in Hubei province.
