Objective:To investigate the relationship between impaired glucose tolerance(IGT) and mild cognitive impairment(MCI) and risk factors for mild cognitive impairment.Methods:We collected the elderly subjects checking up in our hospital .Standardized questionnaires on personal history and medical history, neurological examnation ,blood tests ,blood pressure , cardiogram , neuropsychology test were carried out. According to medical history and the results of OGTT, subjects but no diabetes and IFG were divided into IGT and normal glucose tolerance . According to the clinical diagnostic criteria of MCI, subjects were divided into two groups:MCI and normal cognitive. 200 subjects were admitted to this study. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed on the basis of the data. Results: 1, Age, the level of education, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and TIA were factors contribuding to MCI(P<0.05). Gender, IGT, heart diseases, smoking, alcohol consumption were not factors contribuding to MCI(P>0.05). 2, The level of education (OR 0.335,95%CI 0.160—0.701), hypertension (OR 2.868,95%CI 1.164— 7.070), hyperlipidemia (OR 3.782,95%CI 1.418—10.092)were variables in the equation in the end. Higher education was a protective factor for MCI, hypertension and hyperlipidemia were independent risk factors for MCI. Conclusions: 1, The results indicate IGT is not a risk factor for MCI. 2, Gender, heart diseases , smoking, alcohol consumption are not risk factors for MCI. Higher age, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and TIA are risk factorsfor MCI. Hypertension and hyperlipidemia are independent risk factors for MCI. Higher education is a protective factor for MCI. Control of the blood pressure and blood lipid are important for improving the cognitive function of the aged.
