IntroductionWith the increasing demand for adult orthodontic treatment , it may requires orthodontists to bond non - metal brackets directly to non - enamel pros-thodontic materials. In this study , we bonded resin orthodontic brackets to two kind of commonly - used prosthodontic materials: porcelain and light - cured composite resin with domestic adhesive, ordinary light - cured composite resin and BISCO ORTHO - ONE~? orthodontic Direct Bonding System respectively and then the shear bond strength of the resin brackets , the integrity of the prosthodontic surface after debonding and the effects of different surface treatment method on the direct bonding were examined.Part one Shear bond strength of resin brackets bonded to porcelainObjectiveTo investigate the effects of different porcelain surface treatment method on the shear bond strength of resin brackets bonded to porcelain and examine which adhesive can be suitable for the porcelain - resin bracket bonding.Methods90 porcelain veneers were divided randomly into there groups according todifferent adhesive material that was used to bond resin brackets: A Jing - Jin enamel adhesive. B light - cured composite resin. C Bisco ortho - one orthodontic direct bonding system. Each group was further divided into 3 subgroups with 10 porcelain veneers each according to different surface treatment method; 1. alcohol cleanse. 2. deglazing by grinding and acid etching with 4% hydrofluoric acid. 3. surface silanating after deglazing by grinding and HF etching. All specimens were stored in 37 °C water for 24 hours and then the shear bond strength and the porcelain fracture after debonding were determined.Resultsthe shear bond strength in the C - group was much greater than that in the A - group and B - group. Adequate orthodontic bonding were achieved when bonding with Bisco ortho - one orthodontic direct bonding system after deglazing by grinding , HF etching or surface silanating. There are "no differences in the rates of porcelain fractures among C2,C3 group.ConclusionsThe Jing - jin enamel adhesive and ordinary light - cured composite resin both can not be used to the resin bracket - porcelain bonding. Bisco ortho - one orthodontic direct bonding system can be used to the resin bracket - porcelain bonding after proper surface treatment.Part two Shear bond strength of resin brackets bonded to light - cured composite resinObjectiveTo investigate the effects of different resin surface treatment method on the shear bond strength of resin brackets bonded to light - cured composite resin and examine which adhesive can be suitable for the resin - resin bracket bonding.Methods90 resin veneers were divided randomly into there groups according to different adhesive material that was used to bond resin brackets. A Jing - Jin enamel adhesive. B light - cured composite resin. C Bisco ortho - one orthodontic direct bonding system. Each group was further divided into 3 subgroups with 10 resin veneers each according to different surface treatment method: 1- alcohol cleanse. 2. roughening by grinding. 3. surface silanating after roughening by grinding. All specimens were stored in 37 X. water for 24 hours and then the shear bond strength and the resin fracture after debonding were determined.Resultsthe shear bond strengths in the C - group was greater than those in the A -group and B - group. Adequate orthodontic bonding were achieved when bonding with Bisco orthodontic direct bonding system after roughening by grinding or surface silanating. There were no differences in the rates of resin fractures among C2 and C3 group.ConclusionsThe Jing - jin enamel adhesive and ordinary light - cured composite resin both can not be used to the resin bracket - resin bonding. Bisco ortho - one Orthodontic Direct bonding System can be used to the resin bracket - resin bonding after proper surface treatment.
