HIV Molecular Epidemic Research In Chongqing

HIV genome has a character of high variation. As the high prevalence all through the land, the virus appeared much more subtypes. HIV types in each province appeared from single to numerous and from one district to all over the country. Under such a status, carrying out the molecular epidemic research of HIV/AIDS seems very important。 In order to disclose the relationship between HIV prevalence status and the subtypes, get to know what affect HIV distributing and establish systematic surveillance data bank, we carried out the two rounds of research from 1999 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2003.In this study, the HIV env gene C2-V3 sequence has been used as target. The nested-PCR has been used to analysis the mutation of HIV in serum screen from HIV high risk population. Results as following:1. The HIV carriers' age concentrated in 20-40 years; The ratio of male and female is not remarkable( X~2 test, p>0. 05) ;The injecting drug user (IDU) held a more and important position. It has increased from 71% to 95% during the past two years(X2 test, p<0.05).2. Through gene sequence analysis, the prevalence subtype during the first time survey is C. The gene distance of samples is far. The furthest distant rate is about 8.3. But in the second time round, the main prevalence subtype is recomposed B7C. The gene distance of samples is near, the distant rate is about 4.7. So we can say, during the past two years, the HIV carried by IDU has taken great changes, not only single gene in one virus, but recombined across different virus. The singleness subtype is the characteristic of virus in IDU population.3. As those people who have extra-marital sexual behavior hide much more deeply, the real prevalent in this population could not be found in the survey. But the status in this area is undoubtedly more puzzle. It needs additional research to disclose if the B/C subtype has transmitted to population who have extra-marital sexual behavior. We also find that subtype B which prevalent in many provinces in china and transmitted by blood -donation is only in few carriers in Chongqing.By carrying out HIV epidemic survey, we can perfect to establish the HIV samplesbank. The resource of viral strain, serum samples and gene bank is very important to HIV/AIDS study and control, especial about the vaccine design and new treatment research.
