Objective: To analyse if there are expressions of Survivin in pathologicalscar tissues or not. If the positive expressions do exist, investigate the characteristics of the expression and distribution, help us to find something in pathological scar formation, and to diagnose and treat them. Methods: Immunohistochemistry(SABC method)was used to detect the expression and distribution of Survivin in hyperthrophic scars, keloids and cancer scars with rabbit-anti-human polycolonal Survivin antiboby.Biopises were taken from 20 cases of hyperthrophic scar patients, 21 cases of keloid patients, 9 cases of cancer scar patients and 6 cases of healthy people with nomal skin. Image analysis was performed to guantitatively compare the differences of Survivin expression in these tissues.Result: Both cytoplasts and nucleuses were stained in some cells ofepidermis including basel layer, stratum spinosum, and derims. Most of the positive ceils are fibroblasts, some are keratinocytes, endovascular cells, inflammatory cells and so on. The Survivin IOD value in keloids (592.10±83.96)was significantly higher than that in hyperthrophicscars(410.74±108.08);The Survivin IOD value in cancer scars(615.63±142.71)was significantly higher than that in hyperthrophic scars; P<0.05.But there is no statistic differences between keloids and cancer scars; P>0.05.No positive cells were found in normal skin tissues. Conclusion: There are positive expression of Survivin in hyperthrophicscars, keloids and cancer scars, which shows during the course of wound healing, the anti-apoptosis factor Survivin may play an important role in scar fonnation. There are different Survivin IOD value among hyperthrophic scars, keloids and cancer scars, this could provid us a guide in diagnose and treatment. There is no statistic difference of Survivin IOD value between keloids and cancer scars which reveal the keloid has the characteristic of tumor.
