Expression And Implication Of Survivin And Its Correlation With P53 In Gallbladder Cancer

Objective: To investigate the expression of survivin and its relationship with the clinical feature of gallbladder cancer, and the correlation between the expression of survivin and p53.Methods: In 45 specimens of gallbladder cancer, 20 specimens of chronic cholecystitis, 20 specimens of polypoid lesions of gallbladder(PLG) and 10 specimens of normal gallbladder tissues, the expression of survivin and P53 were detected by using immunohistochemistry. Laboratory data were then analized statistically together withthe related clinical-pathological data.Results: 1. In 45 cases of gallbladder cancer, 40 cases expreessed surviving, the positive staining percentage was 88.9%. 34 cases expressed p53, the positive staining percentage was 75.6%. Survivin and p53 was not detected in non-cancer tissue, chronic cholecystitis, PLG and normal gallbladder tissues. The expression of survivin in gallbladder cancer had no association with the patient age and gender (P>0. 05) , the tumor size (P>0. 05) , the pathological grade (P>0. 05) , lymph node metastasis (P>0. 05), clinical stage(P>0. 05). But the positive staining percentage of lymph node metastasis was higher than that without lymphatic metastasis obviously.the difference had significance ( P < 0.01 ) .But there were not significant difference in the other pathology feature of GBC. Survivin and p53 was not detected in chronic cholecystitis, PLG and normal gallbladder tissues, the difference had higher significance than GBC (P<0. 01) .2. .Of the 34 p53-positive case, 31 cases were positive for the expression of survivin. Of the 11 p53-negative case, only 2 cases were positive for the expression of survivin. the difference had significancebetween them (P<0. 01) .Conclusion: 1. The expression of survivin and p53 in GBC were significantly higher than that in chronic cholecystitis, PLG and normal gallbladder tissues.2.The higher expression of survivin in GBC were correlated with the degree and progression of malignancy. 3. Joint action of survivin and p53 mutation to apoptosis inhibition plays an important role in the formation and metastasis of gallbladder cancer.4. As a marker to diagnose tumor,survivin is desire to become a new target in diagnosing carcinoma of gallbladder.
