Objective To investigate the expression of survivin protein in epithelial ovarian neoplasms and to study its relation with expression of bcl-2 and clinicopathological characteristics in epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC). To explore the potential role of survivin in the development and progress of epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods Using SP immunohistochemical technique,we examined the expression of survivin and Bcl-2 protein in 48 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer, 30 cases of benign tumor and 10 cases of normal ovary tissue. The correlation between the expression of survivin protein and clinicopathological characteristics in epithelial ovarian cancer was analyzed. Results Survivin protein was negative in normal ovarian. The positive rates of survivin were 60.42% , 23.33% in epithelial ovarian cancer and in benign ovarian tumors, respectively. The positive rates of bcl-2 were 56. 25% , 16. 67% in epithelial ovarian cancer and in benign ovarian tumors, respectively. There was no significant different between normal ovaries and benign tumors (P>0. 05) .In contrast, there was significant difference between benign tumors and epithelial ovarian cancer (P<0. 05) . Overexpression of survivin was related to the tumor grade and clinical stage. There was no relationship between survivin protein expression and pathological type and lymphatic metastasis. The expression of Survivin was correlated with unfavorable outcomes.
