| Recently, the morbidity of ischemic cardiac disease is rising year by year. It is thought highly of the study about the protective effect of drugs on ischemic myocardium. Normal myocardium has unique properties of oxygen supply and oxygen consumption. These properties make heart prone to suffer from ischemia. Generally speaking, coronary atherosclerosis and coronary spasm are two common etiological factors resulting in myocardial ischemia. Following ischemia, cardiac myocytes will develop a series of pathophysiological changes, including metabolic change, cellular apoptosis and necrosis. This experiment is to investigate the protective effect of Caltrop Ginseng Capsule(CGC) on ischemic myocardium with whole animals. This experiment is based on the study of cultured cells and isolated organs.Drug treatment about ischemic heart disease is a kind of complex treatment which aims directly at a series of pathophysiological changes. The future object of study is to delay the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis . All kinds of drugs, including blood lipide regulator, thrombolysis drugs, anticoagulate, anti-blood-platelet drugs, adnephrin β -receptor blocker, calcium antagonists and Chinese herbal medicine, etc., have been used to treat ischemic heart disease in clinical.CGC consists mainly of caltrop, dan-shen root, ginseng and borneol, which is based on the traditional Chinese medical science and made by advanced technique and reasonable quality standard. CGC can not only decrease the myocardium oxygen consumption, increase the blood flow,inhibit platelet aggregation and atheromatous plaque formation but also enhance the ability of erythrocyte deformation and carrying oxygen. So CGC can prevent and cure ischemic heart disease. The reports of this kind of study have not been seen in the world.We not only observed the effect of CGC on hemodynamics but also measured the content of blood oxygen. The results showed that CGC can decrease the total peripheral resistance, which can result in decrease of oxygen consumption. And on the other hand CGC can raise the myocardial blood flow without increasing cardiac output thereby increase the oxygen supply in myocardial cell. It is because CGC has the effect of dilating coronary artery, strengthening lateral branch circulation and reducing coronary arterial resistance. The study of blood gas indicated that CGC can decrease myocardial oxygen consumption, myocardial oxygen consumption index and myocardial oxygen intake rate. From these results, we infer that CGC can improve the relationship between oxygen-supply and oxygen-demand, because it has the effect not only on ameliorating heart hemodynamics and decreasing myocardial oxygen consumption, but also on decreasing myocardial oxygen intake rate. In brief, CGC can improve myocardial hemodynamics, increase myocardial oxygen-supply, decrease myocardial oxygen consumption and lessen myocardial injury resulted from ischemia.The results from observations on EECG, myocardial enzymes(AST, CPK, LDH) and infracted area showed that CGC can reduce myocardial impairment and diminate the infracted coverage in ischemic myocardium.
