Atherosclerosis (AS) is one of the most threatening diseases to human health as well as the direct cause of the development of many cardiovascular diseases. The recent studies indicate that AS is a chronic inflammatory disease. The injury of vessel endothelial cells is the initial factor of AS development, and the next step is the adhesion and infiltration of monocytes, which will turn differentiate into phagocytes beneath the endothelial and further phagocytose lipids and develop into foam cells. Then, the phagocytes and activated endothelial cells generate plenty of chemotactic and adhesive molecules promoting the occurrence of inflammatory as well as growth factors stimulating the proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells.Hemorheology is the usual monitoring indexes for cardiovascular diseases. The modern pharmacological researches of Danshen and Chuanxinlian has proved that both of them can alleviate the early occurrence of AS by acting against the platelet, decreasing the blood viscosity, protecting endothelial cells, regulating the blood lipids, inhibiting the adhesion of monocytes and the proliferation of smooth muscle cell. So,the study screens the effective compatibility of the combination of Danshen and Chuanxinlian on animal model with high blood viscosity and observe the effects of these two herbs on hemocheology, then we make the animal model of early AS occurrence by combining high fat diet with injury on endothelial cells.
