ObjectTo investigate the relationship between some of risk factors and severityof obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) . Method192 consecutive patients who were referred for evaluation of suspectedOSAHS in sleep laboratory of West China Hospital were included in this study. Diagnostic polysomnography, standardized questionnaires and measurements of anthropometric data were carried out for all patients. The patients were divided into non-OSAHS, mild, moderate and severe groups according to the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) . The relationship between the risk factors such as gender, age, obesity and degree of OSAHS wereanalyzed. Results(1)Male patients had higher risk than female, the proportion of male tofemale was nine;(2)There were gender differences in symptoms, severity of OSAHS and anthropometric data;(3)The age in majority of patients with OSAHS was between 31-60yr, especially 41-50yr;(4)The severity of OSAHS tends to decrease with age;(5)Body mass index(BMI), neck circumferenceand waist hip rate(WHR) of patients with OSAHS were significantly higher than those without OSAHS;(6)Pearson'correIation analysis showed BMI, WHR and neck circumference had significant correlation with the severity of OSAHS. Multiple regression analysis identified BMI and WHR as good predictors for the severity of OSAHS. ConclusionFactors such as age, gender and obesity especially of abdominal type are demonstrated risk factors for OSAHS development, are also have strong correlation with the severity of OS AS.
