Researches have shown that the infection in the root canal of primary teeth is mainly caused by the G" bacteria, and main anaerobic bacteria in the infected root canals are Salivarius, Veillonella, Actinomyces, ropioibace -rium and so on. Bacterial endotoxin is a complex of lipopolysaccharide and protein on the cell wall of G" bacteria[1]. Endotoxin is a kind of progon. All the toxic effect caused by the endotoxin of the G- bactria are almost the same. Endotoxin will cause topical and whole body immune reaction[2], and with very low concentration, it will destroy the periapical tissue obviously[3]. Endo -toxin can be devitalized by the calcium hydroxide. The study on the effect of the calcium hydroxide to the infected root canal has shown that calcium hydroxide can not only suppress the anaerobic bacteria in the infected root canal, but also can devitalize the endotoxin. The experiment is to evaluate the effect of calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point in root canals of the primary teeth with chronic periapical infection containing bacterial endotoxin (lipopplysaccharidesLPS). And compare the effect of the calcium hydroxide and the FC on the bacterial endotoxin. Twenty primary teeth were selected from the children who visited the department of pediatric dentistry in West China College of Stomatology, and were randomly divided into 2 groups: 10 for calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point and 10 for FC. The endotoxin levels were tested before treatment and 1, 2, 4 weeks after treatment respectively by the Lemulus test. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 11.0. The result showed that the efficacy of the calcium hydroxide group is 80%. The endotoxin level before the treatment of calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point is higher than all the groups after treatment, and between the two groups of before treatment and 4wks after treatment, there is significant difference(P<0.05). The efficacy of the FC group is 90%. The endotoxin level before the treatment of FC is higher than after treatment, too. Between the four groups there was no significant difference (P>0.05). There was no significant difference of the effect of calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point and that of FC on bacterial endotoxin existing in root canals of primary teeth(P>0.05). The test proved that calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point has effect on bacterial endotoxin and there is no significant difference of the effect of calcium hydroxide gutta-percha point and that of FC on bacterial endotoxin existing in root canals of primary teeth.
