Objective: To study the anatomical basis of the osteophytosis dysphagia. Methods: The measurement of the distance between the lamina of cricoid and cervical vertebrae were taken on sixty adult median dissected cadavers' heads (M30, F30) and the X-ray film on lateral position. Observing the lamina of cricoid on median longitudinal MRI of the neck moving. Three hundred X-ray films aged 20-90 years (Ml59, F141) on lateral position were used to observe the osteophytosis. In addition, 7 specimens of osteophytosis were sectioned for histological observation. All the data are managed by SPSS software. Results: The measurements on cadavers: the average minimum distance (mm) between the lamina of cricoid and cervical vertebrae (C5 or C6) is 5.57±0.93 in male and 4.64±0.61 in female. The measurements on X-ray films: it is 6.28±1.16 in male and 5.68±1.12 in female. There are all sexual difference (t=2.14-4.58). The rate of osteophytosis is higher with age, among which 0% before 30 yr, 4.0-4.7% in 30-39 yr, 20.0-23.3% in 40-49yr, 38.7-39.2% in 50-59 yr, 56.7-60.0% in 60-69 yr, and 72.7-80.9% in 70-90 yr. There are very significant difference between the year group 30-39 and 40~49(P<0.01),...
