[Objectives] : A whole retrospective study on patients of lumbar disc herniation in this hospital 5 years ago. To make an objective evaluation about the effects after non-operation therapy and a long-term follow-up. To evaluate the long-term effects of non-operation therapy. To study the mechanism of non-operation therapy on the lumbar disc herniation and clinical indication, as a reference for clinical treatment in future.[Methods] : By screening the patients who took non-operation therapy in hospital of authentic diagnosis on lumbar disc herniation in 1999, with completed clinical history and iconographic data, we took total 95 patients who are cooperative to the follow-up survey as study objects. The fixed number of year is 5 years. In terms of clinical symptom and iconographic changes, we analyzed their long-term curative effect in more than 5 years.[Results] : In 95 cases of patients after non-operation therapy 5 years ago, recovery is 38 cases, improvement is 50 cases, and inefficacy is 7 cases, with a total effective rate of 92.6 %. Meanwhile, a better long-term curative effect and less suppression of nerve root in patients were observed. Almost all of the patients could live and work as normal. Few of them had to take operation. Therefore the non-operation therapy was proved to be an effective therapeutic method. It should be the preferred method on treating lumbar disc herniation patients.[Conclusions] :It could get significant curative effects in the patients of lumbar disc herniation after non-operation therapy, with suitable indications selected. The long-term curative effect is also satisfied. Non-operation therapy turns out a great therapeutic method for treating lumbar disc herniation. There should be a further study on it.
