ObjectiveFace is the most important character of the whole figure and gives people ' first impression' . A beautiful face is considered as one of aid factors of well individual development and obtaining success. People who are satisfied with their faces appear to be more self - confident and have higher self - esteem than those who are dissatisfied, and they obtain more social approval, job opportunity and isomerism favor. However, what is the beautiful face? For centuries, artists and physicians have tried to quantify the ideal proportions of the face. These are attractive to or-thodontist because they provide guideline for esthetics. The desire for the improvement of the profile is the most important reason for treatment. In the past years, orthodontist and plastic surgeon did quantitative analysis on the profile character and try to establish precise standards of beautiful face. These attempts continue to this day. With the developing of the society, the esthetics value and the definition of beautiful face change a lot. Moreover, the discrepancy of esthetics interest varys greatly because of the difference of Weltanschauung, thinking mode , value culture perception and living circumstance. In clinical practice , when the treatment probably change the profiles the discrepancy of esthetics interest become more significant. Do the orthodontist and lay people differ in what they consider to be an esthetical pleasing profile? Can the lay people receive the perception of the orthodontist ?Bone malocclusion, one of the malocclusions Orthodontics researches, is the disaccord of size, form and relation between the maxilla and mandible. It has great effect on esthetics and function. Moreover, there is sizable proportion to clinical patient. The light and medium bone malocclusion ( -4° < ANB < +6°) is mostly cured by corrective orthodontics as the standard of the normal people. But, do these standard coincide with that of the malocclusion patient? Similar documents have not been reported. The major objective is to compare the different preferences of professional and laypersons for facial profile esthetics according to the results of evaluating silhouette profile images, to find out cephalometic indexes related with silhouette profile images in post treatment patients, and try to look for the standard of the post treatment patients with the bone malocclusion. It will direct the clinical practice.MethodSample selecting: Lateral cephalometic films of 117 post - treatment patients (55 male, 62 female) were chosen from orthodontic department, stomatology hospital, China Medical University. The lateral cephalometric films were trace on acetate with sharpened 4H pencil, the diameter of tip was less than 0. 5 mm. All of the works were done by the author. Then the trace images were scanned into computer and changed into silhouettes by PHOTOSHOP7. 0. The silhouettes were blackened and placed in white background. The silhouettes were produced into automatically running file with poweroint software.Evaluators: Include professionals and laypeople. Professional group were 16 orthodontists, average working time 10.7 years with shortest time of 6 years and longest time of 20 years, including 8 females and 8 males. Laypeople group were 63 freshmen of orthodontic department of china medical university including 24 males and 39 females.Evaluating method; the images were projected on white veil. Evaluators were sitting 2. Om in front of the veil. The automatic running software was played with a preview, then they were formally played. Each of the images will stay on the veil for 10 seconds.Statistics and grouping: The patients were sub - grouped according to their ANB values. The scores of professional group and laypeople group were analyzed with SPSS11. 5 software. The scores of each sub - group were analyzed with paired t test. The former 20 patients among patients with high scores and the last...
