With the improved imaging modalities, newer surgical techniques, and advances in neoadjuvant chemotherapy, limb salvage surgery with preservation of the epiphysis for primary malignant bone tumors in childhood is becoming a new method of surgical treatment in most cases today. Joint-preserving surgery, as well as its effect on adequate tumor resection and lower rate of local recurrence, will also preserve better limb function and avoid postoperative limb length discrepancy. Metallic prostheses placement was not suitable for childhood. As a result, massive allograft replacement plays an important role in joint-preserving surgery.Nowadays, most studies on fixing epiphysis and massive allograft in joint-preserving surgery focus on vertical fixation, cruciate fixation and wire loops fixation. Which method is the best,to the best of our knowledge,it has not been reported previously in the literature. In this study, we use 15 fresh pig femurs to make experiments on the basis of the biomechanical theory to seek the project of more reliable steadiness,so as to provide valuable data for its clinical application.1, The Biomechanical Studies on the Fixation Methods of Epiphysis and Massive AllograftObjective To study the theoretical basis of a more adaptive project in fixing epiphysis and massive allograft so as to provide valuable data for its further clinical application. Methods 15 fresh pig femurs were randomly divided into three different groups:the vertical fixation group;the cruciate fixation group;the wire loops fixation group. All the groups were made into femur—epoxy resin compound pieces. So,such biomechanical experiments as compression rigidity, tension rigidity, torsion rigidity, bending rigidity were carried out,and the steadiness of different fixation methods were observed. Results In the test of tension rigidity, the situation of the cruciate fixation group was the best, and that of the vertical fixation group was the second, that of the wire loops fixation group was the worst. In the test of torsion rigidity, the situation of the vertical fixation group was the best, and that of the cruciate fixation group was the second, that of the wire loops fixation group was the worst. In the tests of bending rigidity, the situation of the cruciate...
