HIV/AIDS Prevention Strategy Study On MSM Community

MSM (Man Who Has Sex With Man) is the group at high risk of getting HIV/AIDS. Gay men constitute the main part in MSM community. Around the World AIDS Day on December 1 of last year, Ministry of Health of China published a series of investigation data, showing that among the MSM, the HIV prevalence rate was up to 1.35%, is the second highest risk group of HIV, just lower than 1DU (injecting drug user). For the sex behaviors between same sex are against with the Chinese traditional culture, MSM community suffer discrimination, living on the edge of the society, more than 70%-80% MSM come into the actual marriage, which increase the HIV/AIDS inter-transmitting between high-risk and ordinary people. The aim of the study is to research the HIV/AIDS prevention strategy in MSM community of Wuhan city. On the base of a survey about their HIV/AIDS correlation knowledge, attitude, beliefs and practices, explore the pertinent and propagable HIV/AIDS intervention pattern in MSM community, make the theory preparation for establishing the work mechanisms to bring MSM community to participate in the location HIV/AIDS policy, program and their implementation.This research adopt sample investigation method, carry on an AIDS KABP questionnaire investigation to 105 adult MSM in 5 places gay gathered in Wuhan city, the questionnaire involve the personal background, HIV/AIDS knowledge, seek medical advice behavior, condom knowledge and view, sex behavior, condom using and procedure,add up to six part 78 issues. And interview some individuals who concern with the issue of HIV/AIDS.The prevention AIDS knowledge of MSM group in Wuhan has already been close to the performance goal of the Chinese action plan on containing, preventing and controlling. The origin of HIV/AIDS information has the tendency to be more specialization and easier to obtain. There is very high HIV/AIDS testing desire and action, the information about HIV/AIDS testing and treatment great effect on their participation in VCT; the relationship of MSM community shows comparatively more stable. When have sex with different sex or in different manners, the rate of using condom is different, moreover, not all people can use condom correctly. In contrast, the protection consciousness of spouse is far more than of themselves and someone else. Using condom is the favourite way that MSM community ready to take most.As for the MSM community is the group that most accept the HIV/AIDS information, education and communication among the several high risk populations, mass media and community propaganda are all essential to pay special attention to, only by this, can HIV/AIDS information be more effectively universalized in the community; more exact and detailed information are needed as well as the multiple-itemed VCT serves. Condom and lubricant promotion should be launched in the MSM bars, public bathhouses, parks, toilets and warehouses. Moreover, there have certain feasibility to attempt registered HIV testing in CBO. The emphases of behavior change communication should be reducing the high risk behavior and strengthening the individual ability to confer with sex couple on using condom. Strengthening the community based organization's capability building of HIV/AIDS prevention and cure is the first problem to resolve in MSM community.
