Background and aim: Amyloidosis is an abnormal intercellular deposition of insoluble proteins, which results in impairment, or even dysfunction of involved organs. Digestive system is one of the regions to be commonly invaded in the disease. In this paper, we elucidate clinical features and diagnosis strategy in order to avoid misdiagnosis. Methods: Clinical manifestations, classification, imaging examination, laboratory results, therapy and prognosis of 24 cases with amyloidosis in digestive system were analyzed and summarized. The relevant literatures were reviewed. Results: These patients presented various digestive symptoms and liver was most commonly invaded in these cases. The laboratory and imaging examination was uncharacteristic. 8 patients were once diagnosed incorrectly. Moreover, those with systemic amyloidosis wereirresponsive to treatment and were usually with unfavorable prognosis. Conclusion: Digestive system is one of the regions to be commonly invaded in amyloidosis. The patients are lack of specific clinical manifestation, laboratory and imaging examination, which results a high misdiagnosis ratio. Biopsy has been suggested to the only means to confirm the diagnosis.
