Objective:This study examed the integrated backscatter parameters of different types plaques and nomal intimer-media in carotid artery by Acoustic Densitometry technique, analysed the plaque in cerebral infarction, made correlation between integrated backscatter parameters and plasma levels of triglyceride,low density lipoprotein. The aim of this sturdy is to asses the value of AD in detective tissue characterization of normal arteries and atherosclerosis plaques, and to provide some new quantitative parameter for plaque components property and the risk of cerebral infarction. Methods: In 82 patients with carotid atherosclerosis, they were divided into two groups, cerebral infarction group( 42 cases,male 27 female 25)and no cerebral infarction group (40 cases. male25 female25). examed plasma levels of triglyceride,low density lipoprotein. Examed the intimer thicknes, echo of different plaques by high frequency 2D ultrasiond . Accordingthe echo of plaque, divided into fatty plque ,fibrous plaque, calcify plaque and complex plaque .Analysed the number of different plaques and the stenosis degree of carotid artery .Detected the IBS value of different plaques and normol intima-media by Acoustic Densitometry technique , placed the ROI in the intima-media,plaque and adventitia, examed the IBS value of intima-media,plaque and adventitia , calculated the standard IBS value, the plaque or intima-media standard IBS value defined as the the plaque or intima-media standard IBS value /the adventitia IBS value ×100%, IBS%. Examed the percentage of low echo area,high intensity echo area in the total complex plaque . Results:1 The IBS value is highest in calcify plaque,,the IBS value is decreased in following :calcify plaque>fibrous plaque>fatty plaque, there is no significant difference between the complex plaque and the other type plaques.The IBS value of intima-media is between the fatty plaque and fibrous plaque. 2 In cerebral infarction group,the number of fatty plaque are fewer than no cerebral infarction group,the number of fibrous plaque,calcify plaque and complex are no significant difference between the two groups. The stenosis degree of two group have no great difference. 3 In cerebral infarction group the percentage of low echo area in the total cmoplex plaque is fewer than no cerebral infarction group,and the percentage of high tensity echo area is less than no cerebral infarction group, the percentage of high echo has no significant difference between two group. 4 the AD value of fatty plaque is negative correlation with plasma levels of triglyceride((r=-0.83,P<0.01) , low density lipoprotein has no significant difference between two groups. Conclusions: 1.AD can evaluate the pathological components of plaques and the stage of plaque development. 2.AD can evaluate the risk of carotid plaque in cerebral infarction 3.AD can reflect the plasma levels of triglyceride .
