ObjectiveTo observe the early effect of extracorporeal Shockwave treatment (ESWT) on distraction osteogenesis of rabbit tibia and to investigate the mechanisms of promoting ossification. This study will provide theoretical and experimental bases of ESWT in clinic. MethodsTo set up animal model, 30 adult New Zealand white rabbits were used. After osteotomy of left tibia, improved Orthofix M-100 bone fixator was fitted on it. After 5 days, bone lengthening of 1 cm was obtained over 10 days.
