Enamel demineralization is a main syndrome of contemporary orthodontic treatment. Prevention of it is one of the most concerned fields of modern orthodontic research. Many of the researches are concentrated in the improvement of bonding materials and the use of fluoride. This study contrasted the modified bracket-bonding operation which was designed for enamel demineralization prevention to the conventional operation. The designer of modified bracket-bonding operation is Dr. Lv Ying of Beijing Stomotology Hospital. Here are main points of it: 1. The acid etching area is not limited to the base of bracket. It extends to 1.5mm out of the bracket base. 2. The sealant is applied to all the acid etching area. 3. The excessive bonding material is faced around to be a slope instead of removed. 4. Polishing the slope surface after bonding material set. The studies can be divided into the following 3 parts, which include 1. Contrasting the ability of enamel demineralization resistance brought by 2 different bonding operations. 2. Contrasting the plaque formation and gingival irritation difference brought by the different operations. 3. Contrasting the enamel condition of two operations after debonding. The main results of these studies are: 1. The bonding material cover of the modified operation protected the enamel to prevent demineralization. 2. The modified operation reduced the plaque formation in mesial, distal and occlusal direction. But the result varied with tooth in gingival direction. 3. The modified operation didn't bring any obviously surplus damage to enamel when and after debonding. From these results, we got the conclusion that the modified bracket-bonding operation had obviously advantage over the conventional one. Considering its other merits such as convenient clinical process, no surplus instrument and can united with other demineralization preventions, the modified bracket-bonding operation is worth of introducing to clinic instead of the conventional one.
