Objective: To investigate the clinical curative effect of JDKXC on epilepsy, and to observe the effect of JDKXC on the spontaneous discharges of injured nerve and discuss the mechanism. To approve the feasibility and practicability of detoxification in treating epilepsy. Methods: The experiment study. Rats Bennett-Xie was used. 30 female SD rats were divided into 5 groups randomly: contradistinguished group (A), JDKXC low dose group (B), JDKXC middling dose group (C), JDKXC high dose group (D), Ca++-free solution group (E).Take nerve out the body of rats and peg them on the insulated launder. When the single spontaneity Discharge was steady period 1 bursting we registered it and bring intervenor to bear. Group A were added same fried water. Group B, C, D were added respectively with 0.2ml different dose of traditional medicine. Substituted normal Kreb's solution for quondam solution when discharges stop. Substituted Ca++-free solution for normal Kreb's solution in Group E and added 0.2ml middling dose traditional medicine while discharges leveled off. The clinical study. The cases were diagnosised and sorted according to the Clinical Study Rule to Therapy the Epilepsy by New Traditional Medicine. 80 epileptics were divided randomly into two groups. There was no significant difference in ages, course of epilepsy, style and frequency of seizure. The 40 patients in therapied group were treated with 4 to 5 JDKXC once, tid, p.o. to adult and with 2 capsule once to children younger than 14. The 40 patients in contradistinguished group were treated with 2.5 to 3 piece of Sodium Phenytoin once, tid, p.o. to adult and with 3mg/kg/d to children younger than 14. A period of treatment lasts 6 months, but the treatment for part-seizured epileptics who seizures after 6 months or more lasts 1 year. Detect and note EEG, frequency and grade of seizure, concurrent symptom before or after a period of therapy. Results: The experiment study. 1.Abundant neural firing patterns: When the nerve was perfused continuously with normal Kreb's solution, the abundant neural firing patterns were observed, such as integer multiple bursting, intermittent period 1 spiking, period 1 bursting, period 2 bursting, chaotic bursting. Neural firing patterns in Ca++-free solution were periodic bursting and periodic spiking. The firing patterns had not changed after being added intervenor in group A. The firing patterns in group B, C, D had changed into integer multiple bursting and then disappeared. The firing patterns in group E had changed from period 1 spiking to periodic bursting , then to period 1 bursting , till to quiescence, or from period 1 spiking to period 1 bursting directly. There were 3 nerves which had discharge after being perfused with normal Kreb's solutionagain. 2.Originality chart of nerval discharges: The changes in group D were the most rapid, and group B most slow. 3.The graphs of frequency changing with time: The discharges falled as time changed. More dose, less time. 4.The effect on nerval discharges of intervenor: There was no effect in group A. Traditional medicine restrained nerval discharges in group B, C, D. 5.Quantity-effect relation of JDKXC to restrained nerval discharges: The time to quiescence of group B is the shortest (p<0.01). The restrain on frequency in same time in group D is the strongest (p<0.01). The clinical study. 1.Clinical curative effect: The total effective rat of therapy group is 82.5%, and contradistinguished group 65%. There are significant difference between them (p<0.05). 2.The average times of seizure one month: Among therapy group, the times is 4.31±1.97 before therapy, and 0.87±0.91 after. Among contradistinguished group, the times is 4.75±1.63 before therapy, and 1.44 ±0.98 after. There are significant difference between them (p<0.05). 3.EEG: The effective rat of EEG of therapy group is 71.87%, and contradistinguished group 48.00%. There are significant difference between them (p<0.05). 4.The curative effect on epileptic of different style: The effective rats of therapy group to grand mal is 84.21%, to petit mal 66.67%, to partial seizures 71.43%, and contradistinguished group 66.67%, 66.67%, 57.14% accordingly. There are significant difference in grand mal between them (p<0.05), but no significant difference in petitmal (p>0.05) and partial seizures. 5.Side effect: When one week after therapy, there were two sufferers in therapy group whose excrement was watery. 3 days later, excrement was normal without any treatment. The eyesight of one sufferer became indistinct and appeared diplopia. Macula appeared on two sufferers. Two sufferers had symptoms of nausea and inappetence. All of the symptoms disappeared after changing the dose or therapy by traditional medicine. Conclusion: Treating epilepsy by making a point of toxins is guided by planning treatment according to differentiate evidence and the holistic concept of traditional chinese medicine, based on the pathogenesis and coming on character of epilepsy. JDKXC which is a prescription guided by toxins has the functions of detoxification, repeling epilepsy, melting phlegm and inducing resuscitation. That accord with the pathogenesis of epilepsy. The curative effect of JDKXC is credible and distinct for epilepsy, what excel sodium phenytoin. There is no obvious kickback and side effect. JDKXC is a secure effective medicine as a essential prescription being used to cure epilepsy by detoxification. JDKXC can restrain the spontaneous discharges of injured nerve. The effect of restraining becomes stronger, and the time to quiescence becomes shorter as does increased. JDKXC restrain spontaneous discharges of injured nerve by blocking natrium channel and potassium channel or (and) by promoting regeneration of injured nerve. The increase of calcium concentration can restrain the spontaneous discharges...
