Objective: To investigate the effect of interictal epileptiform discharges on cognitive function in patients with epilepsy.Methoths:In the current study,Video EEG monitoring was performed on 73 patients with epilepsy who met criterias and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA)was scored in 73 patients with epilepsy and 30 healthy subjects. The data were analyzed using statistical software.Results:1.The cognitive function scores of patients with epilepsy are lower than those of the control group, which are mainly manifested in the scores of visual function, memory function and language function;2.The cognitive function scores of patients with epilepsy were negatively correlated with age, duration of disease, and number of anti-epileptic drugs, and positively correlated with educational level.Patients taking phenytoin had lower cognitive function scores than those who did not.Cognitive function scores were not associated with gender, use of oxcarbazepine, frequency of seizure, and age of onset;3.The cognitive function scores of patients with epilepsy were negatively correlated with Spike wave idex(SWI)and abnormal degree of EEG background, and were not related to the appearance form, type and location of IEDs;4.After controlling the use of phenytoin and the educational level,SWI had an independent effect on the total score of MoCA(β=-0.268,P<0.01).In addition,SWI had an independent effect on the scores of naming, memory and abstract ability;5.10% SWI was the boundary value that IEDs had a significant influence on the cognitive function scores of patients with epilepsy.Conclusions:1.There are widespread cognitive impairment in patients with epilepsy, mainly in visual function, memory and language function.2.The older the epileptic patients, the longer the course of the disease, the more anti-epileptic drugs, the more serious the cognitive impairment. The cognitive impairment of patients taking phenytoin are more serious than those not.The gender of epileptic patients, the use of oxcarbazepine, the frequency of seizure and the age of onset have no effect on cognitive function;3.IEDs has an independent effect on cognitive function, and the larger the SWI,the more serious the cognitive function impairment. The higher the abnormality of the EEG background, the serious the cognitive impairment. The appearance form, type and location of IEDs have no effect on cognitive function;4.The SWI of 10% is the threshold of a significant decrease in cognitive function in epileptic patients... |
