Aim: The study was aimed at developing a rat model that closely simulates the metabolic abnormalities of the human type 2 diabetes melli-tus with two methods. The effects of TFGs on FBG and other biological and chemical index were observed. Pathology of liver, kidney, pancreas were also observed. Method: We used two methods to set up a rat model that closely simulates the metabolic abnormalities of the human type 2 diabetes mellitus. Model 1 of Male Wistar rats were fed with Hypergly-cemia and Hyperlipidemia to induce insulin resistance, and then Hyperglycemia was developed by intravascular injection in these rats with streptozotocin(STZ) after 1 month on the diets. Model 2 of Male Wistar rats were injected STZ by intravascular, selected the rats which were FBG≥10mmol/L, then the rats were fed with Hyperglycemia and Hyperlipidemia diet. Distinguish which model was better. After than, we observed the effects of TFGs on FBG, FINS, TNF, TG, TC, LDL and HDL, to calculate IAI, IS, to detect pathology the liver, the kidney, the pancreas islet in the model. Results: After modelled, FBG and INS obviously increased in model 1 and model 2, but model 1 was more closely simulates the metabolic abnormalities of the human type 2 diabetes mellitus. So, we selected model 1 as this experiment model. The TFGs can decrease the FBG, TNF, FINS, TG, TC and LDL, rise HDL, IAI, IS of T2DM rats of model 1. Conclusion:Model 1 which is similar to human type 2 diabetes is characteriozed by moderate hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance. The TFGs can enhance the sensitive of insulin ameliorate insulin resistance, lower blood glucose, improve the metabolism of TG, TC, LDL and HDL.
