Objective To study the expression of p53 , p16, PCNA protein in esophageal carcinoma and its relationship to sexual distinction, the location of disease, the biological level, the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis. Methods 50 patients with esophageal carcinoma were included in the study, all of them were treated for the first time. Their age 75 year, KPS 70 and the survival time 6 months .p53, p16 and PCNA protein in the 50 cases of esophageal carcinoma were detected by immunohistochemical assay(S-P technique). Results The positive expression of p53, PCNA protein in 50 patients was the same of 74% (37/50). The rates of p16 gene loss were 52%(26/50). The positive expression of p53, PCNA protein were irrelated to the sexual distinction, the location of disease, the biological level , the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis. The loss of p16 was significantly related to the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05,0.01). The positive expression of p53 and PCNA (56%, 28/50)were significantly related to the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis,too(P<0.05,0.01).Conclusion 1. The mutation of p53 was significant in patients with esophageal carcinoma , it takes place in the early stage and was irrelated to thesexual distinction , the location of disease , the biological level , the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis.Just as p53,The expression of PCNA was not a independent prognosis factors. 2. The positive expression of p53 and PCNA and the loss of pi6 were significantly related to the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis in esophageal carcinoma, and may serve as risk prognosis factors.
