| Osteoporosis is a familiar disease of the aged. Its main character is low bone quantity and the breakage of bone micro-stucture. Bone-ache and fracture are the main clinical symptom. At present, the drug therapies for the treatment of osteoporosis include the followings:1.Antiresorptive drugs, such as estrogen, calcitonin and bisphosphates. 2. Anabolic drugs, such as fluoride and parathyroid hormone. 3. Other drugs, such as vitamin D3 and calcium. But anti-osteoporotic drugs have many disadvantages. For instance, estrogen may cause gynecoid tumor. Drugs for osteoporosis are very expensive, and its further effects are not sure. Consequently, the management for osteoporosis should be improved quickly. Recently, there is few applications of pulsed electromagnetic fileds(PEMF) for the treatment of osteoporosis in our country.PEMF can produce spiry wave, its magnetic indensity is determined by the asending time, pulsed width and frequency of the wave. The frequency of PEMF ranges from several HZ to hundreds of HZ. It had been approved that PEMF can promote bone formation.Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system was produced by Biomedical Engineering Institute of Chinese Academy of Medical Science and WeiGe Medical Electron Insrument Corporation of Shanghai. It can produce PEMF, and it had been used for the treatment of osteoporosis. This dissertation aims to find out the effects of Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system on osteoporosis via observing the effect of control group and the Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system therapy group on osteoporosis .Objective: To find out the effect of Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system on osteoporosis, including the BMD, bone formation markers, bone resorption markers and clinical symptom.Methods: Thirty-one osteoporotive patients were treated with Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system and calcium(treatment group), and other 31 osteoporotive patients were reated only with calcium(control group). The teatment group was treated with Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system for 30 times. In the first 10 days, they were treated every day. In the following 20 days, they were treated every two days. At last, They were treated every three days. During these 60 days, Calrtate (600mg/d) was given everyday. To the control group, only Calrtate (600mg/d) was given. For the both groups, the BMD, plasma BGP, urinary HOP and clinical waist and backache grade were determined before and after the course. Finally, the data was processed by SPSS.Results:1.The BMD of the both groups didn't increase after treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the BMD of treatment group was obviously higher than the control group(P<0.05). 2. In control group, before and after treatment, the clinical waist and backache grade was not evidently different (P>0.05). But in treatment group, the clinical waist and backache grade was higher than before(P<0.05). After treatment, the clinical waist and backache of treatment group was higher than the control group(P<0.05). 3. In control group, before and after treatment, the plasma BGP was not evidently different (P>0.05). But in treatment group, after treatment, the plasma BGP was higher than before(P<0.05). After treatment, the BGP of treatment group was higher than the control group(P<0.05). 4. The urinary HOP of the both groups didn't increase after treatment (P>0.05). Between the two groups, after treatment, the urinary HOP still has no difference(P>0.05). Conclusion: 1. Union-2000 osteoporosis treatmen system may improve the concentration fo the plasma BGP. 2. Union-2000 osteoporosis treatmen system can improve the patients' clinical waist and backache grade 3. Union-2000 osteoporosis treatmen system can't promote bone resorption; 4. In these 60 days, Union-2000 osteoporosis treatmen system can't improve the BMD obviously, but compared with the control group, the BMD is still higher. maybe Union-2000 osteoporosis treatment system can improve BMD in future.
