Objective: To study Heart Damage of Obstructive Jaundice in Rats and The Protective Effect of Panax Notoginoside (PNS) .Methods: The model of Obstructive Jaundice in Rats was established, and 36 Wastar rats were divided into three groups at random:supposed operation group (SO group) ;common bile ligation group (CBDL group) ;group of injesting the Panax notoginoside into abdominal cavity after the common bile being ligated (CBDL -PNS group) .Each group were observed after the 7th, 14th day of operation. The heart function, the levels of serum total bilirubin (TB) ,direct bilirubin (DB) ,lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) .creatine kinade (MB) ,the contents of myocardial superoxide ( SOD ) and malondialdyhyde ( MDA ) were determined, and the left ventricle were drawn by light microscopic observation. Results: After ligation of the common bile duct the heart function fell. And the serum TD,DB,LDH,MB levels and myocardium MDA were increased significantly, while SOD decreasd markedly compared with the supposed operation group. After ligation of the common bile duct myocardium injuried by light microscopic observation. Compared with common bile ligation group at the same phase, the heart function were improved. The serum TD,DB,LDH,MB levels and myocardium MDA in CBDL -PNS group were decreased.while myocardium SOD increased. The myocardium injuries were improved in CBDL -PNS group at the same phase. Conclusion: Panax Notoginoside had a significantly protective effect on bile duct ligated rats by improving heart damage in morphology and function.
