In this paper, two series of biodegradable cross-linkers were made from active reactants and oligomers of poly(D,L-lactic acid)-co-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA-PEG-PLA). It provided the foundation for synthesizing a novel biodegradable tissue adhesive. The changing tendency of the oligomers's molecular weight was showed by intrinsic viscosity and GPC. The structures of PLA-PEG-PLA oligomer and two biocross-linkers were studied by IR, 1H- NMR and 13C-NMR. These active groups terminated agents were then used as cross-linkers to react with compounds with multi-amido compounds or multi-hydroxy groups. The as-synthesised cross-linked materials were characterized with water absorbency, surface contact angle and mechanics properties. Moreover, a kind of porous scaffold material was made by frothing method. The surface of porous scafflold materials was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).GPC results indicated that molecular weights of cross-linkers will be controlled by changing the ratio of poly(ethylene glycol) and lactide. FTIR , 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR results showed that biepoxide and biisocyanate biodegradable cross-linkers were successfully synthesized. Different cross-linker quantity affect the performance of chitosan film. The results showed that the hydrophilicity and mechanical properties of the cross-linked materials are obviously improved. The new tissue adhesive can be self-hardening in air with trace water and will be applied inrepairing the defect of bone.
