Object: To observe the therapeutic effect of method of protecting Yuan-qi combining with removing blood stasis and resolving turbidity on early stage of DN. Meanwhile to study the possible mechanisms. Methods: 40 patients enrolled were randomly divided into 4 groups. Every group has 10 cases. The group 1 was control group, and group 2 was treated orally with Bao yuan di dang decoction only. The group 3 was treated orally with captopril (37.5mg/d), and group 4 orally was treated with captopril and Bao yuan di dang decoction. The symptoms, blood sugar, urinary albumin and ET were compared after 1 month. Results: l)The total clinical effective rate was30%in group 1, 70 % in group 2, 70 % in group 3 and 80% in group 4 with significant differences (p< 0.01). 2)Bao yuan di dang decoction and captopril were significant factors in the efficacy of reduction in the urinary albumin (p<0.05), but Bao yuan di dang decoction was better than captopril. Meanwhile there were not mutual effects between them. 3)There were no significant differences between captopril and Chinese medicine in the efficacy of reduction of blood glucose. 4)In our trial, captopril reduced the amount of ET as a significant factors, however, Bao yuan di dang decoction was not significant factors. Conclusion: 1)Bao yuan di dang decoction and aptopril could reduce the excretion of the urinary albumin. 2)Bao yuan di dang decoction and aptopril have not valid effects of reducing blood glucose. 3)In our trial, captopril reduced the amount of ET as a significant factors, however, Bao yuan di dang decoction was not significant factors.
