| Objective: To explore the changes of function and configuration of sciatic nerve in long term alcohol intake rat and observe the curative effect of Coenzyme Q10Method:60 rats were randomized into 3 groups, 12 for normal control(N), 24 rats were fed with high dosage alcohol(HA), Low dosage alcohol was given to the other 24 rats(LA). 5 weeks later, HA was randomized into HA1 (continue with alcohol) and HA2 (alcohol and drug), so as LA. After another 5 weeks, detect the electrophysiology of sciatic nerve and make samples to observe the changes of configuration under optics microscope and the ultrastructure under electron microscope.Results: compared with the normal control group, changes have taken place in the conduction velocity, amplitude and latent period of all alcohol intake groups, especially the amplitude.The changes of high dosage group are much significant than those of others.The phenomena of segmental demyelination and slight axon degeneration can be seen in the sciatic nerve in high dosage group. The other groups have similar but delicate changes. Conclusion: Long term alcohol intake can damage the function and configuration of peripheral nerve in rat. There is positive relation between the extent and alcohol quantity. Coenzyme Q,,> have a curative action on the peripheral nerve disease induced by long term alcohol intake. |
