Objiective : To Explore the clinical effects and mechanism of Shenmai(SM) injection on intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH) in acute phase. Methods: Animal's experiment: With Spiapue-Dewley rat models with ICH, this research observed the effects of SM injection on pathologic signs of the neuronal system, the pathologic changes of the brain edema and the exoression of HO-1 mRNA in the areas around the hematoma five times: 6h, 12h, Id, 4d, 7d after ICH. Clinical observation: 37 patients with ICH were divided randomly into the :est group which treated with SM injection and the control group which treated with modern medicine. Both groups had been given two-week courses. The defective degree of neuronal system function, clinical effects, hemorheology, the volunes of hematoma and peri- hematomal edema were observed before and after treatment. Results: 1 .SM injection alleviated the pathologic signs of the neuronal system and brain edema in rat models with ICE.2. SM injection facilitated the expression of HO-1 mRNA in the areas around the hematoma in rat models with ICH.3. SM injection facilitated the recovery of neuronal system function and improved clinical effects in patients with ICH.4. SM injection decreased blood viscosity, improved blood hemorheology in patients with ICH.5. SM injection inhibited the peri- hematomal edema formation in patients with ICH.Conclusion: SM injection facilitated the recovery of neuronal system function by inhibiting the brain edema formation in patients with ICH.
