Purpose: To investigate the expression of hsp27 in human age-related cataract lensepithelial cells, clarify the effect of abnomal expression of hsp27 on the formation ofage-related cataract. Methods: Two cases as one by the principle of the same gender and approximateage.50 cases of cataract and 4 cases of control in the end.50 cases of cataract weredivided into three groups:cortical cataract, nuclear cataract and posterior subcapsularcataract. The expression of hsp27 was assayed using western bolt in the epitheliallayer of 17 cortical cataracts, 18 nuclear cataracts, 15 posterior subcapsular cataractsand 4 nomal cases. Results: The expression of hsp27 was significantly higher in the LECs of cataractthan in the LECs of clear lens(P<0.05).Among the cataract groups, the expression ofhsp27 was significantly higher in cortical cataract than in nuclear and posteriorsubcapsular cataract(P<0.01).Conclusions: The development of age-related cataract is correlated withover-expression of hsp27,age-related cortical cataract, nuclear cataract and posteriorsubcapsular cataract may possess a different pathogenesis.
