Objective: To evaluate the importance of the application of the surveyor in designing and fabricating removable partial dentures. Methods: Two groups of Removable partial dentures were made by surveying casts and visual surveying casts respectively. The evaluator examined the prosthesis from three points related to metal framework, biological performance and functional performance after 1.5 years follow-up.Results: The result showed that RPDs made by surveying the casts were better than ones made by visual mothed concerning retention, stability, the condition of the denture-supporting tissues, comfort and displacement and insertion (P<0.05) . But there were no significances between two methods on chewing ability. Conclusions: Designing and fabricating removable partial dentures by surveying casts is recommended.
